The Laurel Highlands Boy Scout Council has set a goal to raise $23,000 to provide full scholarships to 12 economically disadvantaged youngsters and partial scholarships for up to 20 more economically disadvantaged youngsters to attend the 2017 National Scout Jamboree.

The National Boy Scout Jamboree
The National Boy Scout Jamboree is a spectacular outdoor camping extravaganza that will take place over ten days from July 19 – 28, 2017 at a remote national high-adventure camping facility called the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve.

Here's a fast-paced 90-second video link previewing the 2017 Jamboree of what awaits our youngsters.  You’ll see why the Jamboree’s theme is ‘LIVE SCOUTING’S ADVENTURE'. Don't miss this!

Boys who are at least 13 years old and have reached the Scout rank of First Class, and girls and boys in Scouting’s co-ed Venturing program for youngsters up to age 21, are qualified to attend the Jamboree.
Here are some of the dozens of self esteem-building, exciting, leadership-training activities youngsters will experience at the Jamboree:

  • Mountain biking, all-terrain vehicle training and riding
  • A mile-long zip-line from the top of a mountain to the valley below
  • Rock climbing, ropes courses
  • Science and technology programs, merit badge opportunities with some taught by a NASA astronaut
  • Rappelling down the very-high side of a mountain (safety harnesses used, of course)
  • Wood carving, fly-fishing with flies made by the Scout
  • Whitewater rafting, scuba diving, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoe slalom
  • Skateboard challenge course for all levels from beginners to master
  • Archery, skeet shooting, paintball
  • Pioneering, Indian dancing
  • Religious services for every denomination

Your Contribution
Scholarship funds are being collected and disbursed by the Laurel Highlands Boy Scout Council. As such, contributions in support of Scoutreach Jamboree scholarships are tax deductible and will qualify for an employer’s matching gift program.

The following are suggested giving levels:

  • $1,450 – the cost to send one youngster
  • $   145 – the cost for one day
  • $   125 – the cost of a youngster’s uniform (shirt, pants, hiking boots)

All contributions to our Scholarship Fund are due into the Scout Council by March 1 before the Jamboree.
Thank you in advance for your commitment of service to others.
